GIS
technology is being incorporated into an examination of primate time budgets
from a new perspective - maternal time budgets and their relation to space.
This research is unique in two respects. First, maternal time budgets are
examined with a unique captive population. These data, thus, contribute to the
body of knowledge on maternal time budgets. Second, a new way in which one can
think about these issues and a new use of GIS in primate research is being
presented.
Specifically, the use of thematic mapping, Nearest Neighbor Analysis, measures
of spatial autocorrelation, spatial correlation, and kernel density estimation
is explored. In addition, a bootstrap bivariate test of equality to compare
territorial use between individuals and between different behaviors is applied.
